Among the things to see in Castellabate definitely not to be missed is the beautiful and fascinating arched building in the small port of Santa Maria, a hamlet of Castellabate. To reach it you have to go down from the village, going towards the sea. Here is the “Travierso” port, commonly called Porto delle Gatte because its arcades, illuminated by fishermen during the night, give the idea of the penetrating eyes of a feline. It is a structure dating back to the 12th century commissioned by Abbot Simeone, which has a series of arches where goods from Cilento were once kept, exchanged with Cava de’ Tirreni and Naples. Over the years the use of these bows has changed, passing from a storage of fishermen’s tools to a purely commercial use.
“Porto Travierso or Porto delle Gatte” is one of the tourist attractions in Campania present in the Municipality of Castellabate, in the Santa Maria district in the Cilento tourist area.
It is possible to cross the entire port or carry out numerous activities at the maritime level, especially in the summer season.
